Working with The Day to Day

Similar to other freelancing websites, working with is all about taking charge and finding work on your own. As a freelancer, you are the one responsible for finding your own work, keeping track of project tasks and following up with the clients for payment.

Getting Started

1. Sign Up

The first step to using as a freelancer, is to sign up for a free account. Like most free websites, it will only require you to enter in your name and email address. Then you will need to verify your account which can be done via the welcome email you will receive upon sign up.

2. Fill out Your Profile

Once you are able to log into the dashboard, the next step will be to fill out your profile. Here you will need to fill in information such as:

  • You contact information including name, address and phone number
  • Selecting your skills
  • Adding what type of services you are offering as a freelancer and including a portfolio of previous work
  • Writing a compelling about section
  • Filling out your work terms
  • Adding your payment information
3. Sending a Quote to Your First Job

Similar to UpWork, once your profile is complete, the next step is to begin submitting quotes to jobs you are interested in applying to. To do this, all you have to do is click on the “send a quote” option on the job listing.

Remember, this is the first chance you get to make an impression on a potential client. You will want to impress them with your skills, relevant experience and advice on how you would tackle their project. With that being said, be sure to add the following in your quote.

State the client’s problem

You want to reassure the client that you have read their job listing in its entirety. This can be done within the first few sentences of the quote. Restate their core problem and then use the quote as a means to show the customer how your experience and skills can be a solution to this problem.

Show, not tell, the client how you will solve their problem

Business owners love solutions. Above all, they love freelancers who are confident they can deliver those solutions. To show them you are the best person for their job, do exactly that: show them. Don’t tell them. Show them why you are the best person for the job by showing you have done relevant work in the past. You can do this by using your portfolio and by showing relevant examples. When showing them this, be sure to elaborate sections of the process you plan on using for their project and that you have used in the past.

Add samples to your quote

The last step to preparing a great quote is to be sure to attach relevant samples for your client to see. The goal is to post samples that are similar to the project you are applying for and showcase solutions the client may not have previously thought of.

4. Once hired, complete the job

The moment you get hired may be one of the most experiences you will have as a new freelancer. But don’t let this first hire get you overexcited. I promise there will be many more. The important thing to do here is to complete the job according to what the client wants and exactly what you promised the client you would do. Make sure to do this within the time frame you promised to the client upon submitting your proposal.

5. Get Paid

Once you have completed the job and the client is satisfied with your work, it is time for you to ask for payment. Now, many clients will automatically submit the payment to you. However, there will be a few that may take a few days to pay you due to many reasons such as double checking your work. For these types of clients, just submit a reminder to them daily asking for payment. Many will do so just because you asked.

6. Get Feedback for the Job

One of the most important things you will do as a freelancer is this important step. Gaining positive feedback from your client can help improve your profile and let other potential customers know that you have done satisfactory work in the past. The more positive feedback you have, the more jobs you will get hired for.

All you have to do is send your customer a message upon completing the job or receiving payment asking if they would leave you feedback on your profile. However, let them know if there were some aspects they think you should improve on, to let you know personally rather than give you negative feedback.

Is a Scam?

Absolutely not.

Like most freelancing websites, is legitimate. It acts as a middleman between business owners and freelancers, giving both parties a safe place to conduct business. It works to protect both parties from scams.

However, that doesn’t mean it is free of scams. While it is legitimate, there are way too many scam opportunities posted on the site that often target new freelancers in the hopes of getting free work done. While the staff of do their best to regulate these scams, a few still fall through the cracks.

My Final Opinion

Look, after using personally myself for several years and getting hired for about 80% of the jobs I apply to, this is a website I can’t recommend highly enough. Just like any freelancing site, it may take some time for you to find a job. You may even have to take a few low paying ones just to get decent feedback. But by taking some of the tips I listed in this post and by working on it consistently, it is a legitimate way to make money online.

Legit and Recommended
